Hi.

I’m Whitney. I was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 and ever since then I’ve been living life adventure to adventure in between chemotherapy and surgeries.

Scenes from Lummi Island

We visited Lummi Island for the first time over our anniversary weekend. Lummi is technically not part of the San Juan Islands, but the vibe is very similar. Since Lummi is so protected (it’s the farthest east, and just offshore of the mainland) the waters are very calm and there are long stretches of rocky beaches.

The weather was perfect when we went in mid-August, sunny and temps in the mid-70s. Since we had never been to the island we took some time to drive around, stopping for beach walks.

These first photos above were taken at Legoe Bay. The beach had lots of driftwood and many cute little boats anchored in the bay. The combination of the wild green grasses, yellow wildflowers, grey driftwood, and shades of blue on the water came together to form a beautiful color palette.

We stayed at Willows Inn (more on that later) and Sunset Beach, just across the street, was ideal for morning and evening strolls.

We also checked out some tidepools on Sunset Beach. Kodi was particularly interested in the small crabs and other little critters.

The fishing cabins we saw on the shores of Legoe Bay were particularly picturesque with the buoys and fenders hanging off of them.

Next time we visit Lummi we’ll be sure to check out more of east side of the island since we only explored the west side. I also want to tour some of the farms on the island, especially Loganita Farm which supplies Willows Inn with most of their produce.

More on Lummi to come!
